Salar de Uyuni is the world’s largest salt flat and is located in southwest Bolivia, near the crest of the Andes. Natural salt pans are flat expanses of ground covered with salt and other minerals, usually shining white under the sun. They are found in deserts.

The Black Rock Desert is an arid region in the northern Nevada section of the Great Basin with a lakebed that is a dry remnant of Pleistocene Lake Lahontan. The region is notable for its paleogeologic features.
